Talents

Each player has a number of talents representing special advantages or abilities. You can view your current talents by typing talents, the talents you fulfill the requirements for by typing talent list and all talents by typing talent all. Each talent also has a help file which describes its exact benefits.

You may add a talent to your character by typing talent add <talent name>, as long as you have a free slot. While on your home plane you may also drop talents, by typing talent drop <talent name>.

Talent slots

Each character has a number of talent slots, which determines the maximum number of talents they can have at any one time.

Basic talent slots

Your basic talent slots can be used to add any talent you wish, as long as you fulfull the requirements.

3 talent slots You begin with these for free
1 talent slot When you get 5 or more skills to 100
1 talent slot When you get a super fighting style to 100
1 talent slot When you reach age 100 by classing
1 talent slot When you reach age 200
1 talent slot When you reach age 300
1 talent slot When you reach age 400

Weapon Mastery talent slots

Weapon Mastery talent slots can only be used on Weapon Mastery talents. From a mechanical perspective, you actually get free talent slots along with the requirement that you must have an equal number of Weapon Mastery talents. The importance of this distinction is that if you already have a Weapon Mastery talent and you earn a free Weapon Mastery talent slot (either from raising your weapon skills, or from a subclass bonus), your existing Weapon Mastery talent/s will count towards the 1-3 Weapon Mastery talents.

1 talent slot When you get 5 weapon skills to 100
1 talent slot When you get 8 weapon skills to 100
1 talent slot When you get 10 weapon skills to 100

Subclass talent slots

Age 200 subclasses give 1 free talent, while age 300 subclasses give 2. These free talents are locked (cannot be dropped) and you don't need to fulfill their requirements, although they may impact other talents (for example if you get a subclass talent which bans one of your other talents, you will lose that other talent).

Note that your number of talent slots is increased by the number of subclass talents you have (although these free slots are then filled by the subclass talents). The importance of this distinction is that if you get a Weapon Mastery talent from your subclass, it will count as one of your 3 Weapon Mastery talents.
